Many thanks to all presenters, organizers, and participants for making the International TA Conference a resounding success.

Presenters are reminded to email copies of your handouts and power point presentations to conference@usataa.org.
Photos of the conference will soon be posted and we will send the link via this blog, so stay tuned! If you have pictures to share, and can send us a link for viewing them, we can add that to the photo blog.

Many workshops, Fanita English’s institute, and all keynotes are available on cd’s. Contact info@audiomates.net for a list of which ones are available.

There will be a video of the TA 101 to be edited in the next several months. Contact conference@usataa.org if you wish to order one at the pre-production price and we will email you an order form.

Request your help as workshop monitor - correction + gift from Fanita!

July 21st, 2007

We hope that you are planning to volunteer as a workshop room monitor per the most recent blog post. PLEASE note that the email address in the post was incorrect, and re-send your offer to help to Leonard at laclark859@aol.com. Here’s the notice again:

Secure a seat in your favorite workshops - we need workshop monitors! Please let us know if you are willing to be the “room monitor” for a workshop that you plan to attend. Duties are to support the presenter and ensure that people seeking Continuing Ed credit sign in and out and turn in evaluations.

In exchange for volunteering ahead of time, you are assured a seat in the workshops you want to attend (which may fill due to their popularity and limited capacity). Please email Leonard Clark at laclark859@aol.com right away or by August 1 at the latest with a list of workshops, date and time (from the program page at www.usataaconference.org) that you are willing to monitor. We will let you know if someone has already covered the workshops you are requesting. Thank you for your help.

Here is a gift from Fanita English, who will be presenting a Pre-Conference Institute (for which you can still enroll at www.usataaconference.org on the registration page) on August 8, “The Unconscious Motivators that Determine our Choices and Relationships.”

This download is a chapter from Transactional Analysis After Eric Berne, edited by Graham Barnes. Very good stuff! Thank you, Fanita.

After Conference…Esalen? And another gift for you.

July 16th, 2007

George Kohlrieser, past president of ITAA and keynote speaker at the conference, invites us after the conference to go to world-famous Esalen Institute, for a workshop based on his recent book, Hostage at the Table. A great way to top off the conference with scenic beauty and profound learning.

Below that, a wonderful article by Harry Boyd, with examples and explanation about confronting dishonesty with clients.

Consider going to Esalen

Esalen Institute was founded in 1962 as an alternative educational center devoted to the exploration of what Aldous Huxley called the “human potential,” the world of unrealized human capacities that lies beyond the imagination. Esalen soon became known for the steady influx of philosophers, psychologists, artists, and religious thinkers, and its breathtaking grounds blessed with natural hot springs. Once home to a Native American tribe known as the Essalen, Esalen sits on 27 acres of Big Sur coastline. (A spectacular drive South from our conference venue).

An Esalen workshop with George Kohlrieser

Week of August 12-17, 2007

Are you a hostage to someone or something in your life?

Hostage at the Table

The chance of being taken physically hostage is relatively small. However, anyone can become a “metaphorical hostage” — in a relationship with a boss, employees, colleagues, spouse, children, even with oneself. These “metaphorical hostages” can feel as frightened and as paralyzed as a real-life hostage who has a gun to his head. Yet there are people who, even with a gun to their head, behave with personal power and courage to do the impossible. In this workshop, George Kohlrieser—a leadership professor, psychologist, and veteran hostage negotiator—will explore how the proven techniques and psychological insights used in hostage negotiation can be applied to any personal or professional relationship.

George Kohlrieser, a clinical psychologist and leadership trainer, drawing on his unique experience as a hostage negotiator, will be leading a dynamic and experiential workshop to demonstrate how openly facing conflict allows us to raise the most difficult leadership challenges, such as handling conflicts and dilemmas, emotional stress and uncertainty.

The concepts George Kohlrieser will be using are based on his recent book Hostage at the Table: How Leaders Can Overcome Conflict, Influence Others, and Raise Performance.

And Now, A Conference Workshop Preview…

Have Fun, Learn, Heal with Improvisation

in

REDECISION: IMPROVING WITH IMPROV!

by Phyllis Jenkins

There is an interesting mini-track (theatre arts) at the upcoming conference that is a special interest of mine: creativity in healing and growing.

Beyond psychodrama, I have been exploring enhancement of creativity as a pathway to script redecision for the past six years. Art therapy and psychodrama have long been honored as effective ways to assist people in healing trauma and in the undoing of life scripts.

I facilitate (and often augment individual therapy with) “Artist’s Way” workshops utilizing author Julia Cameron’s Artist’s Way material. It is a unique and special way to free Child Ego State and the so often entrapped creative gifts of Free Child.

In addition, I began experimenting with improvisational techniques in group therapy to foster open communication, build trust, teach listening skills, and help people learn to play rather than argue. Improv skills heighten awareness, increase concentration, and ‘wire brains together’ in a way no other approach does. I have often assigned clients the homework of joining an improv class taught locally. The TA model lends itself especially well to improvisational ‘play.”

So as a special treat at the conference I am co-facilitating a class called “Improving with Improv.” Participants will learn basic improv skills from an Improv Artist and Actor, Russell Galloway.

There will be time to discuss application and brainstorm with other like-minded therapists, educators and organization development folks. This is really a unique opportunity among many fine offerings this August and should be a lot of fun!
