Jamaica Gathering 2012: Why It Was Great to Be There |

The 16th Annual USATAA Jamaica Gathering was held February 4-11, 2012 at the secluded private oceanside resort of Frenchman's Cove, Jamaica. Luxury accommodations were provided at reduced prices for us with a choice to stay either at the "Great House" or in dramatic oceanside villas overlooking the cliffs of the southern Caribbean as you will see in the photos below. In the evenings we dined on excellent native Jamaican cuisine in town. The weather is tropical, in the 80s. This year we had a special Super Bowl viewing party with meals catered in front of the television.
At the "gatherings," presentations are volunteered informally each day during the time period after breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and range from theory discussions to the experiential. Continuing education credits are offered. For professional development and personal growth alike, the learning program was completely tailored to our interests and needs.
Felipe Garcia offered a warmup exercise which illuminated our week together. Having shared our cultural and ethnic backgrounds deepened our mutual understanding and communication. We had informative and useful presentations on Logosynthesis by Jonathan and Laurie Weiss, on the Values Quadrant Tool by Hans-Peter Arens from Germany, and on Drivers and Workstyles by Dmitry Kasanyov from Russia. One day Pauline Bain, a TA Practitioner from Kingston, came to join us and discuss both Jamaican current affairs and the possibilities for providing TA training for two different groups of Jamaican professionals.
