Dr. Karpman is an International Transactional Analysis Association member and has served as ITAA vice president twice.

Dr. Karpman has twice won the Eric Berne Memorial Scientific Award, once for the Drama Triangle and then for Options. He served as the first full editor of the Transactional Analysis Journal, and is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry, UCSF, in San Francisco, where he resides and is in private practice.
