Work Description
For more than 20 years, Dr. Ellyn Bader and her husband, Dr. Peter Pearson, have been helping couples resolve issues and create strong, loving relationships. They are considered by many to be preeminent experts in couples therapy training in the world today. They are creators of The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy and directors of The Couples Institute in Menlo Park, California. Their model teaches therapists how to diagnose, intervene and significantly help troubled relationships.

Ellyn and Peter are the authors of “In Quest of the Mythical Mate: A Developmental Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment in Couples Therapy.” It is now in its 15th printing. Their latest book, “Tell Me No Lies,” is an effective tool to get your clients off to a powerful start by being honest and compassionate.

Ellyn and Peter maintain an active lecture and workshop schedule for couples and professionals and have been active in the International Transactional Analysis Association. Ellyn is a past president, served on the Board of Trustees and edited “The Script” for ITAA.

Ellyn spent eight years on the clinical faculty at the Stanford University School of Medicine. From 1988-2002 Peter was a consulting associate professor at Stanford University in the Department of Counseling Psychology.

Ellyn and Peter are unusual among couples therapists in that they are a couple themselves and have confronted many of the challenges that they write and speak about. For more information on Ellyn and Peter and the work they do at the Institute, go to
